Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Trailer: Evil Doctor Strange, One More Day Comic
By: Domonique Salberg
Jumping right into it, Doctor Strange does not appear to be the one we have come to know from the Marvel universe. His attitude is noticeably, satisfyingly mischievous. His interaction with Wong, shipping him off with an evil wink (happy to go against him), and no concern about the effects of the spell or Peters apprehension for what could transpire is unusual.
He begins the spell/deal with no explanation about how it works or the details, stating, “Be careful what you wish for, Parker,” leaving Peter and us on edge. It sounds like a deal with the devil, and as we know, the devil is in the details; this could very well be the evil Doctor Strange from Marvels television show What if…?
One More Day Comic Reference
The quote also references the generally disliked Spider-Man comic, One More Day, where Mephisto shows up to make a deal with Peter to help save Aunt May, who has been shot. So, to save her, Peter and MJ agree to make a deal to erase their marriage as if it never happened.
Additionally, why does he do it in a sketchy run-down basement? And prop wise, would Doctor Strange have a cheeky “Oh for fox sake” mug? It could be a stretch, but those were my thoughts after watching it a few times.
Sinister Six & Villains: Electro, Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Sandman
Seeing hints of Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus (likely talking to Tobey!), then Electro (this time with his comic accurate yellow lighting) during the Daily Bugle shot, and later Sandman with Electro for a team-up suggests we could get an appearance from the comic villain team, Sinister Six.
